Stamisol façade membranes

Stamisol A1

Non-combustible façade membrane.
Euroclass A1.

Stamisol A1 is a non-combustible façade membrane classified Euroclass A1, the highest reaction-to-fire classification under the European classification system.

Fire membrane

The membrane layer is where reaction-to-fire classification matters most. Stamisol A1 (non-combustible) and Stamisol Safe One (A2-s1,d0, W1 water-tightness) are specified according to the cladding arrangement and joint configuration.

Classification and scope

An A1 classification. A product-specific application scope.

For façade designers and specifiers, the A1 classification provides an important material characteristic when assessing the fire performance requirements of an external wall. It identifies a product that makes no contribution to fire under the conditions of the relevant classification criteria.

The membrane is intended for use in specified façade constructions where non-combustible membrane materials are required. Its suitability must be considered in relation to the supporting substrate, façade arrangement and installation conditions covered by the manufacturer's technical documentation.

Particular attention needs to be paid to the construction behind open or partially open cladding. Stamisol A1 has defined application restrictions, including a maximum gap of 10mm for partially open façade joints. These requirements are important when assessing whether the product is appropriate for a particular cladding design.

For architects and façade consultants, the classification is an important starting point, but it should always be considered alongside the supporting test and classification evidence and the requirements of the complete external wall construction.

Key product information

  • Reaction-to-fire classification: Euroclass A1.
  • Non-combustible membrane.
  • Intended for specified façade applications.
  • Defined substrate and supporting construction requirements.
  • Restrictions apply to partially open façade joints.
  • Installation must follow the manufacturer's instructions.

A product classification is not a system assessment. The classification relates to the membrane as a product. The complete external wall — cladding, cavity, insulation, fixings and installation — must be assessed separately.

Installation and specification

A façade membrane can only perform as intended when the product, supporting construction and installation details work together. Before specifying Stamisol A1, designers and contractors should establish:

  • The proposed façade construction and cladding arrangement.
  • The supporting substrate and its compatibility with the membrane.
  • The fire classification and the scope of the supporting evidence.
  • Permitted joint dimensions and exposure conditions.
  • Fixing arrangements, overlaps, junctions and penetrations.
  • The manufacturer's installation instructions and any project-specific requirements.

The installation guide and relevant technical documentation should be consulted before work begins. Where the proposed construction differs from the documented application, clarification should be obtained from the manufacturer.
