Two specialist membranes. Different fire performance requirements.
The Stamisol range includes two specialist membranes for UK façade applications: Stamisol A1 and Stamisol Safe One. Both have been developed for demanding building-envelope applications, but they have different fire classifications and specific conditions governing their use.
Euroclass
A1
Stamisol A1
Non-combustible façade membrane for applications requiring the highest reaction-to-fire classification.
Partially open façade joints: maximum 10mm, subject to product documentation.

A2-s1,d0
Stamisol Safe One
High fire performance combined with W1 water-tightness for specified ventilated façade applications.
Open joints up to 50mm or 50% open area, subject to the manufacturer's specified conditions.

Hover or tap any layer of the wall to see what it does — from the brick face to the sheathing, with Stamisol at the weather-protection line.

Fire membrane
The membrane layer is where reaction-to-fire classification matters most. Stamisol A1 (non-combustible) and Stamisol Safe One (A2-s1,d0, W1 water-tightness) are specified according to the cladding arrangement and joint configuration.

Product comparison
Understanding the differences between Stamisol A1 and Stamisol Safe One.
Both products are designed for façade applications where fire performance is an important consideration, but they are not interchangeable.
| Stamisol A1 | Stamisol Safe One | |
|---|---|---|
| Reaction to fire | Euroclass A1 — non-combustible | Euroclass A2-s1,d0 — very limited contribution |
| Water-tightness | — | W1 |
| Open joints | Partially open, maximum 10mm gap | Up to 50mm or 50% open area* |
| Intended use | Specified façade applications requiring non-combustible membrane materials | Specified ventilated façade systems, including defined open-jointed cladding |
*Subject to the manufacturer's specified conditions.
A product classification is not a system assessment. The membrane's Euroclass rating does not establish the fire performance of the complete façade system. All adjacent layers, fixings, cavity and cladding must be assessed separately.
Selection
Not interchangeable.
Stamisol A1 carries a Euroclass A1 classification, identifying it as non-combustible under the relevant classification criteria. Stamisol Safe One carries an A2-s1,d0 classification, indicating a very limited contribution to fire, low smoke production and no flaming droplets or particles.
Safe One also has a W1 water-tightness classification, while the two products have different documented application and installation requirements.
The choice between them will depend on the requirements of the project, including the intended façade construction, external cladding, supporting substrate, joint configuration and the performance criteria established by the design team.
It is important not to select a membrane on fire classification alone. The product must be suitable for the proposed construction and supported by the relevant technical evidence.
Selection
Which product is right for your project?
Consider Stamisol A1 where:
- A non-combustible membrane with an A1 classification is required by the project specification.
- The proposed façade construction falls within the product's documented application scope.
- The supporting substrate and installation conditions meet the manufacturer's requirements.
- The cladding arrangement complies with the product's restrictions on partially open joints.
Consider Stamisol Safe One where:
- An A2-s1,d0 classified membrane is appropriate for the project requirements.
- W1 water-tightness performance is required.
- The proposed construction is a specified ventilated façade system.
- The open-jointed cladding arrangement falls within the manufacturer's permitted dimensions and conditions.
The final choice should always be based on the project specification and the relevant manufacturer documentation. If you are unsure which product is appropriate, speak to our technical team.

Building envelope
Façade membranes and building-envelope performance
A façade membrane forms part of the external wall construction and needs to perform in conjunction with the other materials in the building envelope.
Depending on the system, its role may include providing protection against wind-driven rain, helping manage moisture and allowing water vapour to pass through the construction. The precise performance requirements depend on the wall design, substrate, insulation and ventilation strategy.
When specifying a membrane, architects and façade consultants should consider its water-tightness, vapour permeability, exposure conditions, fire classification and compatibility with the proposed construction.
